Val Erickson retired in June 2024 after a career that spanned 40+ years. A graduate from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Val spent most of her career working in the natural resource sector. Prior to retirement, Val was the Community Relations Manager for Artemis Gold Inc.– Blackwater Mine. Early in her career she worked in the environmental science field, ~20 years in the forestry sector, 7 years in post-secondary education, and 7 years in mining.
Born and raised in Manitoba, her early career started in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and then later to British Columbia. Val and her husband have resided in Vanderhoof for over 30 years where they raised their two daughters. Val is an avid outdoor enthusiast, embracing activities from cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to biking, kayaking and fishing as well as enjoying pickleball, yoga and curling.
Val has a keen interest in environmental and social responsibility and believes in supporting and giving back to the communities where she lives and works in. She volunteers as a coach for the Nechako Nordics Jackrabbit program, is a member of the Good Neighbours Committee, and many other local groups. She is also Vice President for the Vanderhoof Community Foundation. She is eager to support NKDF’s mission and looks forward to connecting with the communities it serves.
