In its first Annual Report, which was presented at the AGM, the Society highlights its program details for year one. In addition to developing its program guidelines and application kit and holding orientation workshops in investment area communities, the Society Board has received and reviewed eight grant proposals. The grant programs were officially started in late October 1999.
Half of the proposals received were submitted under the Community Grant program and half under the Economic Development Capacity Grant program. Five of the eight proposals were approved for funding. Totalling up to $179,500, the successful grant projects range from conferences and community wells to the design of a whole new commercial area.
Board Chair, Dave Merz, notes that “ our Board is particularly keen to focus on projects that provide direct benefits to large portions of the community. We look forward to building on the success of our initial Society-supported projects.”
The Board continues to receive grant proposals from communities in the investment area (the Nechako Region and Kitamaat Village), which, as Manager, Fiona Glass, points out “is why we’re here”.
Kicking off the new fiscal year, the most recent project, approved May 17, sees $9000 going towards the construction of a new lodge at Ootsa Lake Bible Camp.
